Oasis of the Seas: Day 2 of 8 – Nassau

Day 2 was a port day. We decided to order room service for breakfast, and enjoy our wonderful ocean view balcony while Oasis docked in Nassau.

We chose the starboard side of the ship, which is the ideal side to book, but another ship beat Oasis to the port, so we had a lovely (no, I’m being sarcastic) view of “Carnival Imagination.” A few minutes later, we had a view of “Norwegian Sun,” and later on in the day, “Carnival Dream.”

Well, we did have a fun time waving to other cruisers that were sitting on their balconies. No view of the port during 3 stops, but, on to the cravings!

Our breakfast was very disappointing.  The powdered eggs were horrible (surprise, surprise), the bacon was undercooked, and the coffee was strong and bitter. We were “not” craving room service again!

We were only in Nassau from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so we decided on a quick trip to Atlantis.  The resort was nice and we were able to take some good pictures.

We returned to the ship well before 2:00 p.m. (to be on the safe side), and decided to try the paninis at Park Café for lunch.  H ordered the Cuban Panini; a very good choice!  It had a nice blend of smoked ham, melted cheese, pickles, and I think pork or turkey.  I had the Chorizo, Chipotle and Cheese Quesadilla; another winner!

The Black Forest Cake was very moist and chocolaty!  The Lemon Velvet Tart was amazing!  It may look average, but it had a silky and delicious texture.

After more exploring, we stopped at the Café Promenade for a snack.  We shared a Shrimp and Egg on a bun, but it was underwhelming.  The Ham & Cheese Croissant was okay.

I had an appointment shortly after at the Vitality Spa, and I suspected H went back to our room for a nap.

The spa was beautiful and serene.  I chatted with a few other ladies in the spa lounge, while sipping a nice cup of herbal tea.  The esthetician assigned to me was very friendly, experienced and professional.  I have to say, it was one of the best facials I’ve had in a very long time!  When the facial was over, I was brought a glass of iced lemon water, and a towel was put on the cold marble floor; how thoughtful!  I had a wonderful experience, and walked dreamily back to our stateroom.

We had a 5:00 p.m. reservation for “Frozen in Time,” an ice skating show.

The show was outstanding, and we couldn’t believe it was already dinner time!

We started off with Escargots Bourguignonne, a RC (Royal Caribbean) favorite amongst cruisers.  Our waiter assured us we would need extra bread to soak up the delicious garlic butter.  The snails were very tender.  We could have ordered another, but as always, I saved room for the desserts!

The Shrimp Cocktail was water logged; enough said.

The Roasted Duck was delicious; so moist, and the skin was perfectly crisp.  The Potato Croquettes were crispy on the outside, with a “mashed potato” texture inside.  2 were not enough!

We shared a second entree, the Grilled Seafood Brochette.  The monkfish and shrimp were tender and quite flavorful.

On to the desserts!  The Bittersweet Chocolate Soufflé had a nice gooey center, and H loved the hit of espresso custard in the center.

The Double Strawberry Cheesecake had a nice creamy texture, not dense like a New York style cheesecake, but in between.  The Strawberry Cheesecake served in the Park Café had too much gelatin, and was very mousse-like, so I was a bit hesitant to try it.  Our waiter confirmed this one was much better.   Mmmm, I’m craving a slice right now.

The Sugar Free Coconut Vanilla Layer Cake is another RC favorite, and I read that we should definitely try this dessert.  I was so full at this point, but hey, I am a dessert lover!
How could I possibly post a food review, and not include a picture of it.  I could not believe it was sugar free! The cake was layered with Tahitian vanilla mousse.  I certainly found room to finish it!  Delicious; I wish I had a slice right now.

After dinner we attended the Captain’s “Welcome Aboard Reception,” where we met Captain Trym Selvag, and had our picture taken with him.  There was complimentary champagne, and a chance to meet other crew members.

We rushed back to our stateroom to change out of our formal clothes, and into jeans and t-shirts for the Comedy Show at 10:00 p.m.  H had a great time, and was practically falling off his chair.  I was falling asleep!  The days and nights were so full of activity, and our schedule (on an excel spreadsheet) was completely filled!  This was not a relaxing cruise!
